American Hotel & Lodging Association Releases New Guide for Advanced Hotel Staff Safety Devices

American Hotel & Lodging Association (AHLA) and Hospitality Technology Next Generation (HTNG) have unveiled an updated buyer’s guide and comparison matrix to support hoteliers in selecting advanced personal safety devices for hotel staff.

Originally released in 2019, the Staff Alert Device Buyer’s Guide was designed to help hoteliers adopt technology that ensures staff safety. The latest update, developed by HTNG’s Staff Alert Technology Workgroup, includes details on various personal safety devices with advanced features like:

• Accurate location tracking for emergency management
• Enhanced communication options through Wi-Fi, Zigbee, and similar networks
• Modular designs for customizable feature selection
• AI-driven systems for adaptive location and response functions

HTNG’s Staff Alert Workgroup, consisting of over 90 members from global hospitality and tech firms, maintains this guide to assist hoteliers in assessing staff-alert solutions suited to their unique needs.

The updated guide reflects the hotel industry’s ongoing dedication to employee and guest safety, joining a suite of initiatives such as:

• Safe Stay Initiative: Launched during COVID-19 to support health practices for hotel staff and guests
• AHLA’s 5-Star Promise: A pledge to strengthen safety measures through improved policies, comprehensive training, and advanced employee safety devices
• No Room For Trafficking Initiative: The AHLA Foundation’s program to prevent human trafficking, delivering over 1.8 million training sessions and raising $3.7 million for survivors
• Advocacy for Hotel Safety Legislation: Including the HOTEL Act and the Human Trafficking Awareness Training Recognition Act, supporting properties with anti-trafficking training

Additionally, AHLA’s Safety & Security Committee, composed of leading hotel safety experts, shares best practices with members, ensuring guests and employees are protected.
